About Our History

Kingsburg Community Church is both the newest and the oldest church in town. While KCC was formally chartered in June 1998, its predecessor churches are the oldest still in existence in Kingsburg. Back in the 1880's, Circuit Riders from the Episcopal Methodist Church, South, began coming to Kingsburg to hold worship services. In 1884, a local church was organized. In 1888, the Swedish Methodist Episcopal Church was organized to serve the Swedish immigrants to Kingsburg. In 1910, a third church, the Rucker Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, North, was organized. In 1915, our current sanctuary was constructed by the ME South church. In 1916, the ME South and the ME North churches merged and continued on as the ME South Church. In 1939, the ME South and the Swedish ME Church merged as the Kingsburg Methodist Church.

The heritage of our church looks back to the legacy of the Circuit Riders whose mission it was to "spread Scriptural holiness across the land." The current sanctuary reminds us of growth that came from revival in the early years; a traveling evangelist led so many to Christ that the old wood church had to be replaced with a larger building in 1915. And, many of our most senior members can remember legends of faith such as Dr. Lundberg, the last pastor of the Swedish ME church, a medical doctor and a preacher.

The recent history of KCC is one of hope rising out of conflict. KCC was formed as the result of a remarkable unanimous decision of the members of Kingsburg United Methodist Church to leave a denominational system that had abandoned faithfulness to the Bible and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This decision was one to leave behind the conflict of that denomination in order to look forward to the mission God has called us to do. We at KCC want to be defined by what we stand for, rather than what we stand against. Yet, our recent history is a strong demonstration of our resolve to remain true to Jesus Christ and the Scripture. It is also a reminder of the commitment we have to one another to maintain the unity of the church family.

While we are proud of our unique heritage, we are also deeply committed to working together with the other biblical church families in Kingsburg. We are grateful to God for the unity of all followers of Jesus Christ, one church, one baptism, one Lord.
